Today was very much a lazy day. We were barely in the saddle for two and a half hours when we cruised gently into Saverne.
Philippe and Babette have been awesome beans and not just fed us well on the evening, but given us a very hearty breakfast of toasted bread and jams. We packed after breakfast, and then went out for a little tour of Straßburg. Joanne knew the city centre already, but Zara was exploring for the first time.
We went into the cathedral, saw the famous clock that was attracting crowds, wandered across the canals and hunted down lots of the modern art statue things.
Lunch back on the rooftop terrace was a tasty salad, a whole trout each, onion risotto, a cheese course and then ice-cream. We felt utterly spoilt (and very full)!
As the clock began to tick round to 2pm, we packed our bags, waved goodbye to our friends, and found our canal path to head to Saverne.
With only 50k to our hostel (pre-booked and reserved for us by the wonderful Philippe) and distinctly summery weather, we gently peddled along the canal path before arriving at our hostel.
The hardest part of the day was getting our bikes in the garage (downstairs) and climbing endless flights of stairs up the Chateau for the night. The room has much less of a Chateau feel to it and more of that of a prison but for 16€ per person, it is more than alright!
Tomorrow it looks like we will be in Nancy; after having continued to improve our cycling-in-straight-line skills and hopefully having seen something of the Vosges and towns beyond in Lorraine.
